The farther you go in your career, the easier it can be to find yourself without peers.
Especially when you’ve taken on a leadership role.
Leadership is touted as this amazing goal:
“Become a Thought LEADER!”
“Move up the ranks into MANAGEMENT!!”
“Stand out as a BUSINESS OWNER!”
And it IS a great goal. But it can also leave you on your own – with the risk, the heavy decisions, and the weight of the work on your shoulders.
I think this dark-side of leadership isn’t really discussed.
Maybe you have some colleagues or friends who get it, but as an entrepreneur or executive, you’re often alone in your decision-making and in the execution of your work.
In these moments of loneliness, trusted mentors and consultants can be the difference between late night worrying about every little thing and a good night’s rest.
Having a coach or consultant can provide you with the space to plan, the additional perspective you can lose when you’re on your own, and the reassurance that you’re taking the right steps at the right time. You can’t ask your employees or clients for that – it’s inappropriate. You can’t ask your friends and family for that because they aren’t objective.
One of the greatest gifts I get to offer as a consultant is peace of mind. I pride myself on being a (mostly) objective sounding board that works with my client’s best interest in mind. I have felt the loneliness of leadership and entrepreneurship and know how big the need for mentorship and support can be. I am able to see the context and the details of my client’s work and life and help them sort it through when they’re feeling that pressure most acutely.
If you’re feeling alone in your career, I invite you to spend some time with me – to fully assess your career and your life, identify what needs to happen next, and make a structured action plan that you can implement right away.
I’d like to offer you support and peace of mind. I’d like to help you Own Your Career Path. You’re not alone. Please don’t wait to reach out for support.
